Butterfly Spectacle and Watercolors
by Jean Okimoto

The new Butterfly Spectacle is just too great to save for a warm, sunny summer day!  A cold, sunny Seattle spring day will suffice.  There are so many ways to use Butterfly Spectacle - with watercolors, vellum, powdered pigments, or layered over printed papers.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here, with a quick watercolored backdrop for this beautiful addition to the Memory Box collection of butterfly dies.

MemoryBoxButterflySpectacle-MemoryBoxMorningGardenButterflies-MemoryBoxSquareBasics-JeanOkimoto-WatercoloredCards-ButterflyCards-WatercoloredButterflyCards-ButterflyDiecuts-Kaleidacolor

Paint a square of watercolor paper with diluted Kaleidacolor dye ink refills.  Air-dry it for a few minutes, then spritz it lightly with water and heat-set it with a dry iron on the cotton setting.

Cut it with the 3-1/2" square die from the Square Basics set.  Cut Butterfly Spectacle from white cardstock.  Trim around it with the 3-¾" Square Basics die.

Attach Scor-Tape behind gold mirror cardstock and cut the antennae from the Morning Garden Butterflies die set.

Score, cut and fold a 5-½" square card of white cardstock.  Assemble the card.  Add lavender gem stickers.

Wasn't that quick and easy?  Paint a supply of watercolor paper and have it ready for your next project.  I like painting squares of watercolor paper - about 6"x6" - so I can select the ideal section of colors for my projects.  Having a square also means you'll be able to rotate the waterolored background up to 4 times to find that perfect blend of pretty colors!

If you're in the Seattle area this weekend - join us for my last class of the quarter at Impress.  It's ASIAN DESIGNS...SIMPLY STATED - a great way to use your stash of Asian artpapers and dies from Memory Box and Poppystamps.  See you there!

Next quarter's classes have some quirky titles - but I promise they'll be colorful, fun and filled with techniques and great ways to use your supplies.  Enjoy and splurge with your 10% shopping discount too.  Here's what's coming up:

             -    RAINING CATS & DOGS on April 8

            -    GOING GREEN on April 15

            -    SUMMER HEARTS on May 13 and Memorial Day, May 29

            -    SURF & TURF on June 3

            -    SUMMER BLISS on June 17 and July 4

Thanks for stopping by - join us for Donna's great project tomorrow!

Wondering what the other designs from the Morning Garden Butterflies look like?  Here they are - with their matching Butterfly Ensemble backgrounds.  Hello, Jean Okimoto here, with more butterflies from my stash of Kaleidacolor-ed watercolor papers.

I like being able to really, really use my all of my supplies and help you do the same.  Let's  see what we can do with the three other butterflies (six in total) from these two great die sets.

MemoryBoxButterflyEnsemble-MemoryBoxMorningGardenButterflies-MemoryBoxSquareBasicsSet-MemoryBoxWatchingTheWorldBloomStamps-JeanOkimoto-WatercoloredCards-WatercoloredButterflies-ImagineCrafts

Cut the three Butterfly Ensemble backgrounds from watercolored paper.  Cut the detailed matching Morning Garden Butterflies overlays from white cardstock.  Cut the antennae from the Morning Garden set from aqua glittered cardstock.  Assemble the butterflies - attach the overlay just along the center so they'll lift and flutter upwards.

Cut a 2-½" square of watercolored paper with the Square Basics die.

If your cardstock is heavily-textured, place a side-folded 5-½" x 4-⅛" card between two sheets of printer paper and run it through your diecut machine with the cutting plates to smooth it out a bit for stamping.   The card is a bit shorter than the usual 4-¼" to let the butterfly's wing extend beyond the edge  - but have the card fit into a standard A-2 envelope.  Details, details!

Stamp the greeting - from the Watching the World Bloom set with Imagine Crafts Lilac Posies Memento Luxe.  Emboss it with detail clear powder.

Assemble the card and add medium and small clear iridescent sequins.

Love butterflies - but just can't decide which Memory Box butterflies to buy?  The Morning Garden Butterflies and Butterfly Ensemble sets are the perfect choice.  Mix, match and layer these great designs for beautiful cards for any occasion!

Save the date - Saturday, February 25th is Memory Box Catalog Day at Impress!  New catalogs are arriving and will be free with your Memory Box purchase while supplies last.  Enjoy 10% off all Memory Box and Poppystamps dies too!

Thanks for visiting.  See you again next week - or at the HEY THANKS class at Impress on Saturday March 4th.

Watching the World Bloom
by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxBloomingPeonyStem-MemoryBoxWatchingTheWorldBloom-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-JeanOkimoto-WatercoloredCards-WatercoloredFlowerCards-ImagineCraftsVersaFine.ImpressCardsAndCrafts

A watercolored Blooming Peony Stem adds a bit of sunshine to any day...especially a winter day!  Hi, Jean Okimoto here, determined to create something to brighten things up a bit.  Any greeting would work here - here's my favorite combination of typestyles,  from the Watching the World Bloom clear stamp set.

P1350763

I have a big stash of watercolored sheets painted with Kaleidacolors and Peerless Watercolors.  I hope this soft combination of yellows and greens promises spring will be here soon.

Cut Blooming Peony Stem from white and green cardstock.  We're using just the white negative and the green diecut today - say the other pieces for another project.  Trim the white cardstock with the 3" x 4-¼" Rectangle Basics die.  Attach watercolored paper behind the flower cutout.

Attach a piece of doublestick tape behind the tiny dots in the center of the peony.  Set the peony into the white cardstock background.  Brush gold glitter onto the adhesive in the tiny dots.

Stamp the greeting onto a scrap of watercolored paper with Olympia Green VersaFine.  Dry the ink and trim the paper.

Attach everything to a top-folded 5-½" square card of pale yellow-green cardstock - use foam dots for the greeting.   Add tiny pale green sequins.

Special thanks to everyone who braved Monday's cold windy rain to take the BIRTHDAY WISHES class at Impress!  I appreciate your rainy drive to Tukwila - and it was great to see those who've been taking my classes since I taught at Rubber Soul 18 years ago.  18 years!  Thanks too, Ann, Shari and Becca - for helping us fill our baskets with everything we needed to make those birthday cards - and get a headstart on spring cards.

Thanks for stopping by today - see you next time!

by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxMorningGardenButterflies-MemoryBoxButterlyEnsemble-MemoryBoxFollowYourBliss-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-JeanOkimoto-ImagineCraftsKaleidacolors-PeerlessWatercolors-WateroloredButterflies-ButterflyCards-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

The new Morning Garden Butterflies Set is just what I needed to complement the Butterfly Ensemble.  It's a set of 6 delicately detailed butterflies - and antennae - designed  to coordinate with the solid shapes of the Butterfly Ensemble.

Hi, Jean Okimoto here with a decidedly un-seasonal design for you.  Just couldn't wait till "butterfly weather" to pair these beauties up with some paper from my stash.  It's also been a while since we last followed our bliss - let's combine everything here!

MemoryBoxMorningGardenButterflies-MemoryBoxButterflyEnsemble-MemoryBoxFollowYourBliss-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-JeanOkimoto-ImagineCraftsBrilliance-WatercoloredButterflies-WatercoloredCards

Cut scraps of watercolored paper - painted in soft watery layers of Imagine Crafts Kaleidacolors and Peerless Watercolors - with 3 Butterfly Ensemble designs.  Cut the coordinating Morning Garden Butterflies overlays from white cardstock.  Cut the antennae from the Morning Garden set from gold mirror cardstock.

Cut a pale blue rectangle of watercolored paper with the 1-¾" x 3" Rectangle Basics die.

Stamp the greeting with Brilliance Pearlescent Jade and dry the ink  Cut a rectangle with  the 3" x 4-¼" Rectangle Basics die.  Having 16 perfectly-sized rectangles to chose from makes it so easy to get everything straight, even and just the right proportion.  Thanks Dave!

Attach everything to a Pool Notecard - use foam dots for the top corners of the wings.  Add small clear iridescent sequins.

by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxDazzlingDragonfly-MemoryBoxModernBorderTrim-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-JeanOkimoto-ImagineCraftsKaleidacolor-ImagineCraftsDelicata-WatercoloredCards-DragonFlyCards-StenciledCards

The new Dazzling Dragonfly pauses on a shimmery gold-stenciled background from the Modern Border Trim set - clean, simple and very easy!  Hi -  Jean Okimoto here - with a quick design for your busy holiday weekend.

MemoryBoxDazzlingDragonfly-MemoryBoxModernBorderTrim-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-JeanOkimoto-WatercoloredCards-DragonflyCards-ImagineCraftsKaleidacolor-ImagineCraftsDelicata

Cut watercolor paper with the the 1-¾" x 3"  Rectangle Basics Set die.  Press the inks from  an Imagine Crafts Caribbean Sea Kaleidacolor inkpad onto a large acrylic stamp block to create a palette.  Paint the inks onto the watercolor paper with a flat paintbrush.  Dry the inks.

Diecut a stencil of  the Modern Border Trim's dotted pattern from The Crafter's Workshop stencil sheet.  Create a shimmery background by stenciling Delicata Golden Glitz onto the watercolor paper.

Diecut Dazzling Dragonfly from gold mirror cardstock.

Attach the pieces to a top-folded A-2 card of turquoise cardstock.  Add small gold sequins.

Wasn't that easy?  If you have a few minutes - diecut and watercolor a bunch of backgrounds for your favorite Memory Box dies.  They'll be ready when you need them - and would create the perfect backdrop for butterflies and birds too.

Thanks for stopping by...see you again this evening!

So Many Things to Love About the Proper Umbrella
by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxProperUmbrella-MemoryBoxStitchedRectangleTrimmings-MemoryBoxSoManyThingsToLove-MemoryBoxWatchingTheWorldBloom-JeanOkimoto-ImagineCrafts-WatercoloredCards-UmbrellalCards

It's a very Proper Umbrella kind of day here in Seattle...let's pretty it up with flowers from So Many Things to Love!  Hi there, Jean Okimoto here, with a bit of rainy day inspiration.

Our newest umbrella die is quickly becoming another favorite - it's classic, versatile and great for watercoloring. Imagine Crafts Blue Breeze Kaleidacolor's turquoise, blues and purples were perfect for a winter rainstorm card.

MemoryBoxProperUmbrella-MemoryBoxStitchedRectangleTrimmings-MemoryBoxWatchingTheWorldBloom-MemoryBoxSoManyThingsToLove-JeanOkimoto-ImagineCrafts

Kaleidacolor Inkpads have a special locking mechanism to keep the colors separated while in storage.  You'd normally slide the colors together for stamping - but keep them apart for today's card.  Just press a large acrylic block across the inkpad to transfer the inks.  Paint the smoother side of watercolor paper with Blue Breeze.  Heat-set the inks with a dry iron on the cotton setting.

Stamp the flowered hearts from So Many Things to Love onto the watercolor paper with VersaFine Onyx Black and heat-set it.    Diecut three umbrella  - just the tops.   Paint a few of the flowers with colors from the Blue Breeze inkpad.

Diecut three whole umbrellas from gray cardstock.  Attach the stamped umbrella tops over the gray umbrellas.

Stamp the greeting - from Watching the World Bloom - with the 4th color on the Blue Breeze inkpad.

Cut white cardstock with the 2-¼" x 3-½" Stitched Rectangle Trimmings die - leave both pieces in the die.  Attach narrow strips of Scor-Tape along the edges.  Flip the diecuts (still in the die)  over onto a Violet Notecard and press them firmly onto the notecard.

Diecut the greeting with the smallest die and attach it using the same process.

Attach the umbrellas - use foam dots for the top and bottom umbrellas.  Add purple and tiny clear sequins.

Venture outside the box when you're designing cards.  There are so many ways to use the great dies and stamps from the Memory Box collection.  Hope I can inspire you to look at your supplies in new and different ways!

Thanks for stopping by...see you again on Saturday.

Plush Folk Hearts and Valentine Wishes
by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxPlushFolkHearts-MemoryBoxSquareBasicsSet-MemoryBoxGrosgrainRibbons-MemoryBoxHappyBirthdayFriendshipScript-JeanOkimoto-DiecutValentines-StitchedValentines-ImagineCrafts-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Plush Folk Hearts and a bit of gold create a special card for you...Happy Valentine's Day!  Hello, Jean Okimoto here, with a design that just about created itself as a happy discovery.   The stitch holes on the Plush Folk Hearts made it easy to quickly build this abstract pattern of sparkly gold cord.

MemoryBoxPlushFolkHearts-MemoryBoxGrosgrainRibbons-MemoryBoxSquareBasicsSet-MemoryBoxHappyBirthdayFriendshipScript-JeanOkimoto-DiecutValentines-StitchedValentines-JeanOkimoto

Cut two of the medium hearts from pink cardstock.  Punch a 3/16" hole - offset to the right.  Sew long stitches from the punched hole out to the diecut holes along the top edge.  Skip some holes along the left bottom edge.  Sew a few more long stitches.  Knot the thread behind the hearts.

The Plush Folk Hearts set also includes a slightly smaller third heart - without the stitching holes.  It's great for layering and stenciling.

Cut white cardstock with the 4-¼" Square Basics die.  Splatter it lightly with Imagine Crafts Gold Sheer Shimmer Spritz - shake the container, then gently tap the bottom of the spritzer tube over the center and left side of the square.  Heat-set the ink.  It's easier to splatter first, then add the other design elements.

Cut two of the Grosgrain Ribbons from gray cardstock - leave them in the die.  Dry-emboss them for extra texture using the embossing mat and plates required for your machine.

Attach pink and gold washi tape, the grosgrain ribbon diecuts and the heart to the square.  Attach two layers of adhesive label paper or sticker sheets to gray cardstock and cut the "Happy" from the Happy Birthday Friendship Script set.  Adhesive paper makes it quick and easy to add dimension to the greeting without gluing the layers together.

Print "valentine's day" with a labelmaker.

Attach everything to a 5-½" square card of white cardstock.

MemoryBoxPlushFolkHearts-MemoryBoxGrosgrainRibbons-MemoryBoxSquareBasics-MemoryBoxHappyBirthdayFriendshipScript-JeanOkimoto-DiecutValentines-StitchedValentines

Gold and silver - or the bride's special colors - would transform this into a pretty wedding card too.   Experiment with different stitch patterns - there are so many possibilities!

Special thanks to everyone from last week's BIRTHDAY WISHES class at Impress!  Thanks to Ann, Shari and Karen too - for helping us fill our baskets with everything we wanted - and more.  Who would have guessed there were so many creative ways to use our dies and stamps - way beyond the obvious uses.

Thanks for stopping by...see you again on Thursday!

Vibrant colors, a Cherub Heart and the Heart Wire create a quick backdrop for a great stamp from So Many Things to Love.  It seems as though the year just started, but it's almost mid-February.  Are you ready for Valentine's Day?

Hello, Jean Okimoto here, with my last Valentine card from the 2017 collection.  I've paired the classic Cherub Hearts, from a previous release,  with the delicate Heart Wire cut from glittery silver cardstock.  These great design elements aren't just for February 14th - they're perfect for weddings, anniversaries and caring cards for the special people in your life.

Cut the 2-½" x 3-½" Pinpoint Rectangle from watercolor paper.  Ink a 2" soft rubber brayer with Imagine Crafts Rocket Red Gold Brilliance - then spritz it with water.  Brayer the diluted ink onto the paper and set it aside to dry.

Stamp the smoother side of watercolor paper with the floral heart and VersaMark.  Emboss it with detail white powder.  Paint the paper with Peerless Watercolors.  Dry it, then cut it with the 2.7" x 2.4" Cherub Heart die.

Cut Heart Wire from silver glittered cardstock.

Attach everything to a side-folded A2 card of watercolor paper - use foam dots to attach the watercolored heart.  Add tiny clear iridescent sequins.

Create a simple Valentine with the Adler Star Collage in a Cherub Heart Frame - then add a greeting, some sequins - and your card is ready!  Hello - Jean Okimoto here - with a bit of inspiration for our February Challenge.  It's all about clean and simple "love" cards - and with the big day just 12 days away clean and simple is the way to go!

The Adler Star Collage adds a edgy, faceted look to the classic Cherub Heart.  It's sandwiched between layers of black and red cardstock.  The Rectangle Basics make it easy to cut the perfect layers without any tedious measuring.

MemoryBoxCherubHearts-MemoryBoxAdlerStarCollage-JeanOkimoto

Cut a 2.3" x 1.9" Cherub Heart from black cardstock - leave a generous margin of cardstock to create a frame.  Save the negative.  Cut Adler Star Collage from another piece of black cardstock.

MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxAdlerStarCollage-MemoryBoxCherubHearts-JeanOkimoto

Place the Cherub Heart negative over the collage and temporarily tape the layers of cardstock together.  Attach the back of the negative to the sides of the collage.    Cut through both layers with the 2-¼" x 3-½" Rectangle Basics die.

Cut a red cardstock rectangle to fit behind the heart.

Stamp LOVE - from the Smile Clear Stamps Set - on red cardstock with Imagine Crafts Tuxedo Black Memento Luxe.  Emboss it with detail black powder to add a bit of shine and dimension.  Cut it with the 1/3/4" x ¾" Rectangle Basics die.

Attach everything to a 3-¾" x 7-78" card of textured white cardstock - use foam dots for the greeting.  Add light gold sequins.

MemoryBoxAdlerStarCollage-MemoryBoxCherubHearts-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxSmileClearStampSet-JeanOkimoto-ImagineCrafts-MementoLuxe-DiecutValentines

Keep it simple - and easily-assembled!  You'll discover that many of the Memory Box dies create the perfect cutouts to frame our delicate collages and add dimension.   Bold colors and shiny accents add the finishing touch.

Big Thanks to everyone from last week's LOVE...Simply Stated class at Impress.  Thanks Ann, Karen and Erin - for helping us find the products we need for great Valentines.

See you at this weekend's SIMPLY ASIAN class at Impress.  We're making six Asian-inspired cards - one of them features a simple origami bird I created for the class.
