The Deco Trees die is a favorite for mass-producing cards that are easy, colorful and uniquely-yours.   Cut the watercolored background and the handmade deckle edge paper with Rectangle Basics for a perfect fit.  No measuring, guessing or thinking required!  Hello, Jean Okimoto here with a quick design for your holiday cards.

Cut three edges of the watercolor paper with the 4" x 2.75" Rectangle Basics Die.  Cut the rectangle with the Deco Trees die.

ShizenDesignWatercolorPaper-DistressOxides-ImagineCraftsSheerShimmerSpritz-JeanOkimoto

Sponge Shizen Design cold press rough-surface watercolor paper with Twisted Citron, Cracked Pistachio and Peacock Feathers Distress Oxides. Coloring it diagonally results in a nice distribution of these beautiful shades.  Don't try to blend the different colors - color contrasts create great impact.  Use a waterbrush to blend each color within its own area - the paper's texture creates interesting patterns and shading.  Impress just received another shipment of this watercolor paper - it's great!

Heat-set the inks.  Spritz it with Imagine Crafts Gold Sheer Shimmer Spritz, then heat-set it again.

Trim the watercolored paper with the 2.25" x 3.5" Rectangle Basics die.

Stamp the greeting from the Open Studio Merry Christmas Sentiments Clear Stamp Set with Peacock Feathers  on a top-folded 5.5" square card.

Cut strips of green and turquoise cardstock.

Whimsy Cat, Circle Web Collage, and Wrapped Stitch Rectangles by Jean Okimoto

Concord Grape, Twisted Citron and Wilted Violet don't sound very Halloween-ish - but combine them with Whimsy Cats and the Circle Web Collage and they will be!   Hi, Jean Okimoto here, with a few more Halloween tricks and techniques.

DistressOxides-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxFall2017-MemoryBoxHalloweenCards-DiecutCats-DiecutWebs

Cut the 3.5" x 4.75" Wrapped Stitch Rectangle from white cardstock.  Cut the rectangle with the new Circle Web Collage.  Press a piece of blue painters tape lightly against the backside of the collage to remove any wispy little cardstock remnants that would show up against the dark purple Concord Grape Notecard.

Stamp the triangles from the Bird Sanctuary Clear Stamps Set with Distress Oxide Wilted Violet.  Stamp the dots (from the same stamp set) with Twisted Citron.  I love the bonus circles, triangles and diamond shapes that are included in this great stamp set.

Cut Whimsy Cat twice from orange and black cardstock.  Layer them - a bit offset - for a shadowy effect and to add even more personality to their friendly faces.

Stamp the spiders from the Halloween Sideshow Clear Stamps Set with VersaFine Onyx Black.  Color the centers with a black marker.  Matching black inks can be challenging - a black Sharpie is a perfect match for Onyx Black

Attach the diecuts to the card - use foam dots for the black cat.  Add green gem stickers.

There's a lot happening on this card - but I hope the repetition of circles, ovals and triangles  makes it look cohesive.  What do you think?

If you're in the Seattle area, join us for the BOO! class at Impress on October 14th.  We're making 5 cards and a little treat wrapper for your favorite kids (or adults!).  We'll combine great dies from the stash with some of the latest designs from the Fall 2017 Collection.  See the Impress collection of Memory Box and Poppystamps dies and stamps here.

Cat Tail Sunrise, Wrapped Stitch Rectangles and Halloween Sideshow by Jean Okimoto

P1010763

Cat Tail Sunrise creates a sunset backdrop for a Challenge inspiration card  - and the Halloween Sideshow Clear Stamp Set and the Die Set has the perfect designs to complete the scene.  Hello, Jean Okimoto here, with a simple fall card for you.  It's really beginning to feel like fall in Seattle, spiders and all,

P1010777

Cut half of a Persimmon Notecard with the 3.5" x 4.75" Wrapped Stitch Rectangle.  Cut Cat Tail Sunrise from black cardstock - leave about 1.5" of extra cardstock at the bottom.  Trim the bottom with the same Wrapped Stitch Rectangle

Cut Mango Distressed Dots cardstock with 1.5" Circle Basics die.  Stamp the spider - from the Halloween Sideshow Clear Stamp Set - at the "9:00 position" of the circle with Onyx Black VersaFine.

Stamp the jolly pumpkin trio - also from the Halloween Sideshow set - on bright orange cardstock.  Heat-set the ink.  Cut them with the coordinating Halloween Sideshow dies.  Color the center with a marker.

Attach the diecuts to a Licorice Notecard - use foam dots for the pumpkins.  Add tiny copper sequins.

P1010784

I love to keep my Memory Box dies handy - and organized - with curtain rings. You already know they're great for the Circle, Square and Rectangle Basics - and the specialty sets like Wrapped Stitch Rectangles.  Use them for the "open" die sets like Halloween Sideshow too.  They're secure and won't fall off - and it's easy  to preview a diecut by keeping the die on the curtain ring and holding it over your stamped image or printed paper.

I'm headed to Impress today - my little stay-cation is almost over and I "need" to pick up a few new items for my Fall Quarter classes there.  Here's a quick list of the new classes - join us if you're in the area.  We have a large class area, the biggest and latest collection of papercrafting supplies for your fall and holiday projects - and a creative store team to help you with product selection and designs.  (They sell those curtain rings too!)

Turn the Seaweed Collage upside-down - and create a creepy vine background for some fun characters from the Halloween Sideshow Clear Stamp Set and Die Set.  Add a bright Playful Boo and a Seaweed Stalks diecut - and there's your card!  Hi, Jean Okimoto here, with a nautical scene that transformed itself into a Halloween background.

Cut black cardstock with the  2.25" x 3.5" Rectangle Basics die.  Cut it again with the Seaweed Collage.  Cut the long wavy piece from the Seaweed Stalks set.  Attach the bottom of it behind the Seaweed Collage.

Stamp two ghosts, the caterpillar and the Jack o' Lantern from the Halloween Sideshow Clear Stamps Set with Onyx Black VersaFine.  Cut them with  the coordinating Halloween Sideshow Die Set.  Color the ghosts' mouths with a pink marker.

Rough-cut a wedge from the right side of the pumpkin - and pretend the caterpillar did it.

Attach the rectangle to a top-folded dark kraft A-2 card.  Attach the ghosts with foam dots - trim the right side of the lower ghost and slide him up to the inner edge of the collage.

Attach the pumpkin.  Attach the caterpillar with foam dots.

Diecut Playful Boo from orange cardstock.

Add silver gem stickers for a bit of bling.

New Christmas Elves and Slider Grooves by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxChristmasElves-MemoryBoxSliderGrooves-MemoryBoxStitchedCurves-MemoryBoxWrappedStitchRectangles-MemoryBoxNotecards-JeanOkimoto-SliderChristmasCards-ChristmasSliderCards-ElfCards-ElfSliderCards-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

The new Christmas Elves and Slider Grooves are made for each other - literally - and for your Christmas cards too!  Slider Grooves are also designed to coordinate with the new Stitched Curves to create frosty snowscapes, grassy hills, sandy beaches and fall landscapes - they're a pair for all seasons.

Hello, Jean Okimoto here, with a holiday slider card for you. Our Design Team will be sharing slider cards thru Sunday and we hope you'll be inspired to create some too!

MemoryBoxChristmasElves-MemoryBoxSliderGrooves-MemoryBoxStitchedCurves-MemoryBoxWrappedStitchRectangles-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxChristmasCards-MemoryBoxSliderCards-ChristmasSliderCards-ElfCards-ElfSliderCards

Stamp the elves and gift on the smoother side of watercolor paper with Onyx Black VersaFine and emboss them with detail clear powder.  Cut them with the Christmas Elves die set.  Color them with watercolor pencils.  Cut the elf on the right side from watercolor paper again.  Attach it behind the watercolored elf to add dimension and extra momentum as he slides along the snowbank.  (Oops...the new Stitched Curves die set is missing from the photo.)

Cut Pool Distressed Dots with the largest Wrapped Stitch Rectangle.  Cut it with the shortest die from the Slider Grooves set.  Cut the top curve of the snowbank from watercolor paper.  Trim it with the Wrapped Stitch Rectangle die it to match  the  background and attach it to the background.

MemoryBoxChristmasElvesClearStamps-MemoryBoxChristmasElvesDieSet-SliderTechniques-JeanOkimoto

There are many, many ways of adding the slider including pennies, foam tape and bits of cardboard.  Here's what I tried...pompoms!  The 5mm pompoms are perfect with the curved Memory Box Slider Grooves and the Straight Slider Grooves.   Pompoms add the height required for a slider without adding too much weight to the card.  Glue two of them to a scrap of watercolor paper that's smaller than the diecut.

MemoryBoxSliderGrooves-MemoryBoxChristmasElves-MemoryBoxWrappedStitchRectangles-JeanOkimoto-SliderTechniques-SliderCards

Insert the pompoms (attached to the scrap of watercolor paper) from behind the panel.  Attach the double-layered diecut from the front of the panel.  Attach a scrap of Pool Distressed Dots to the front of a Pool Notecard to disguise the groove.  Attach the panel to the card.

Cut Snowy Pine from watercolor paper - leave it in the die.  Dry-emboss it for extra dimension using the rubber embossing mat and plates required for your machine.

Attach the left elf with foam dots.  Attach the gift.  Add silver gem stickers.  Extra postage will probably be required - but it's a design that's sure to make someone smile.  They'll probably be tempted to peek behind the elf and smile again when they spot the pompoms.  There's just something fun about pompoms and they're not just for bunny tails anymore.

Special thanks to everyone from last Saturday's HOLLY, JOLLY AND HAPPY class at Impress!  Hope you liked the new techniques - and the cards we made.  Thanks to Jacky too - for her perfectly rich but light Red Velvet Christmas Cupcakes served on Christmas napkins, in September.  Yum!    Thanks also to Ann, Shari and Erin for finding the products we needed and helping us fill those shopping baskets!

No classes for me this weekend - I'm prepping for the CALENDAR EXPRESS...MORE PAPER PLEASE! class on September 16th.  We'll make an artsy desk calendar with dies, stamps and great artpapers.  It's a great way to get a bit more from your dies and stamps...and use some of the beautiful papers we've been stashing!

Thanks for stopping by...

Sentimental Iris and Wrapped Stitch Rectangles by Jean Okimoto

P1010510

The beautiful butterflies from the Open Studio Sentimental Iris Clear Stamp Set just seemed right for a summer card today.  I love their cool, artsy details...they just look happy and carefree, and perfect for a simple color-splashed design.   Hello -  Jean Okimoto here tonight, with another almost-the-end-of-summer card for you.

P1010518

Press inks from the Kaleidacolor Melon Melody inkpad onto a large acrylic block.  Paint the pretty colors onto the smoother side of watercolor paper.  Heat-set the inks.  Cut it with the 2-3/4" x 4" Rectangle Basics die.

P1010499

Arrange the butterflies and greeting from the Sentimental Iris set on the watercolored background.  Place the acrylic block over the arrangement and press firmly to attach the stamps to the block.  Not quite rocket-science, but it's a lot easier than trying to guess where to stamp and how to fit the images within the background.  Stamp it with VersaFine Onyx Black and emboss it with detail clear powder

Lightly watercolor the butterflies with the Melon Melody inks used for the background.

Cut strips of yellow and green cardstock with the long edges of the 4" tall and 4-3/4" tall Wrapped Stitch Rectangles dies.  The dies add the right amount of texture and interest without competing with the butterflies.  Just another reason to add the versatile Wrapped Stitch Rectangles to your stash!

Attach the diecuts to a Key Lime Notecard.  Add green gem stickers.

P1010515

Can't wait to see everyone at the HOLLY, JOLLY HOLIDAYS class at Impress this weekend!  We're adding  6 more Christmas designs to the holiday card stash - lots of diecuts, layering, techniques, glitter and pretty colors!  New fall and winter items keep arriving at Impress  -  everything you need/want/wish for!  View their great collection of Memory Box and Poppystamps here.

Thanks for stopping by - have a great evening...

Goldfish Collage, Wrapped Stitch Rectangles and Fish Tales
by Jean Okimoto

P1010483

The Goldfish Collage makes a great birthday card for your favorite guy - and he'll never guess how quick and easy it was!   Hi - Jean Okimoto here with a simple summer design.

P1010493

Cut the 2-3/4" x 4" Wrapped Stitch Rectangle from dark blue cardstock. The wonky stitches are hard to see here - but they add a bit of a frame and some texture.    Cut it with Goldfish Collage.  Save the fish for another project - we're using the negative  portion on today's card.

Cut a piece of laminate using the 2-1/2" x 3-3/4" Rectangle Basics die.  Attach it behind the Goldfish Collage - save the liner.  Flip the diecut over to the front and use the slippery side of the liner to press the diecut firmly onto the laminate.  Brush extra-fine light gold glitter onto the exposed adhesive in the fish cutouts.  Tap off the excess glitter, then press the glittered fish with the liner to secure the glitter and smooth it out.

Cut a scrap of light gray cardstock with the 2-1/2" x 3-3/4" Rectangle Basics die.  Attach it the laminate to keep the printed paper and card front from showing through.  A backing layer of gray, white or black cardstock makes the glitter stand out and  keeps any background patterns or colors  from showing through.

Diecut a 2-3/4" x 4"  piece of silkscreened paper.  This crisp, beachy print is from Shizen Design.

Stamp the greeting - from the Fish Tales Clear Stamp Set - on white cardstock with Majestic Blue VersaFine.  Dry the ink, then cut it with the 1-1/4" Circle Basics die.

Cut Dibble Dot Border from gold mirror cardstock - save the circles.

Attach the diecuts to dark kraft A-6 (4-5/8" x 6-1/4") card - use foam dots for the greeting.

P1010487

Glittered diecuts are a great way to dress a card up for any occasion or holiday.  It's quick - no drying required - and makes a great impression.

Thanks for stopping by - see you again this evening!

Poinsettia Blooms, Pinpoint Single Frame and Merry Christmas Sentiments
by Jean Okimoto

Details, details - the new Poinsettia Blooms set includes 3 deeply-embossed blossoms, 2 centers and 2 delicate tendrils - everything you need for a classic holiday card.  The Single Pinpoint Frame highlights these details and adds a bit of dimension.   Hi - Jean Okimoto here with another simple design that would work in many colors - try it in red, fuchsia or gold mirror cardstock too.

MemoryBoxPoinsettiaBlooms-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxOpenStudioMerryChristmasSentimentsClearStamps-MemoryBoxPinpointSingleFrame-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxHoliday2017-MemoryBoxChristmasCards-PoinssettiaCards-DiecutPoinsettiaCards-DiecutChristmasCards

Cut one large, two medium and three small flowers from light pink mirror cardstock.  Leave the diecuts in the die each time and dry-emboss them using the rubber embossing mat and other plates required for your machine.  Here's the sequence I used on my Platinum - platform, diecuts in the die (cutting-edge-up), rubber embossing mat, purple embossing plate.

Attach Scor-Tape behind chartreuse cardstock and cut two sets of the centers.  Cut two sets of tendrils from green cardstock.

Cut white cardstock with the 3-1/2" x 2-1/4" Basic Rectangle die.  Cut the rectangle again with the Pinpoint Single Frame.  Cut Pinpoint Single Frame again from green cardstock - save the delicate frame for another project, we're using just the rectangle here.

MemoryBoxPoinsettiaBlooms-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxPinpointSingleFrame-MemoryBoxOpenStudioMerryChristmasSentimentsClearStamps-JeanOkimoto=MemoryBoxChristmasCards

Stamp the outside greeting - from the new Open Studio Merry Christmas Sentiments Clear Stamp Set - on a top-folded white A-2 card with Imagine Crafts Golden Glitz Delicata. Stamp "FROM ALL OF US" inside the card.  Dry the ink.

I love how easy it is to mix and match portions of the greeting with a quick (but careful!) snip of detail scissors.  The Open Studio greetings stamp sets are great for creating the perfect message for your holiday cards.  Snip them apart, then combine, stack or stair-step them to greet the season.

Assemble the card and add gold gem stickers.

Snowflake Lens, Wrapped Stitch Rectangles and Blessed to Know You
by Jean Okimoto

The new Snowflake Lens fits perfectly in the 3.5" x 4.75" Wrapped Stitch Rectangle, creating another simple watercolored holiday card today.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here, on this last weekend of August.  2017 is moving so quickly...it's 120 days before Christmas!

Snowflake Lens is a bit wreath-y, very contemporary and plays well with Peerless Watercolors.  Spray the watercolored background lightly with Imagine Crafts Sheer Shimmer Spritz and set it aside to dry.

MemoryBoxSnowflakeLens-MemoryBoxWrappedStitchRectangles-MemoryBoxOpenStudioBlessedToKnowClearStamps-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxHoliday2017-MemoryBoxChristmasCards-SnowflakeCards-DiecutCards

Cut the Wrapped Stitch Rectangle.  Stamp "CHRISTMAS WISHES"- from the new Open Studio Blessed to Know You clear stamp set - with Pearlescent Jade Brilliance.  Dry the ink.

Cut Snowflake Lens - make it easy by placing two or three  small, sticky-side-out rolled pieces of painter's tape on the open areas between the snowflakes.  They'll attach the die to the cardstock for diecutting -  and those sections will be removed and tossed out when you're done.

Trim the dry watercolored background to fit behind the Snowflake Lens.

Cut 5/8" strips of cardstock - 3-3/4" of teal, 4" of lavender and 4-1/4" of turquoise.  Cut one edge of the lavender strip with a Wrapped Stitch Rectangle for an accent.

Cut, score and fold a 5-1/2" square card of textured white cardstock.  Assemble the card and add lavender gem stickers.  Square cards require extra postage - I think they're extra-special and will stand out in a crowd.

MemoryBoxSnowflakeLends-MemoryBoxWrappedStitchRectangles-MemoryBoxOpenStudioBlessedToKnowYouClearStamps-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxHoliday2017-MemoryBoxChristmasCards-SnowflakeCards-WatercoloredCards-DiecutSnowflakeCards

Watercolor a stash of backgrounds in your favorite holiday shades.  They'll be ready when you're ready to create a collection of quick holiday cards.

For an even simpler design - eliminate the colored accent strips and attach the rectangle to a A-2 card in a coordinating color.  Add gem stickers, enamel dots or sequins...and you're done!

Thanks for stopping by - see you again this evening.  No classes for me this weekend - I'm prepping for the HOLLY, JOLLY HOLIDAY class at Impress on September 2nd.  See you!

New Wrapped Stitch Rectangles, Piccolo Snowflakes and Stitched Piccolo Snowflakes

Mix and match the new Piccolo Snowflakes and Stitched Piccolo Snowflakes as a sparkly trio on a Wrapped Stitch Rectangle background.  Glitter makes it better, and sequins add the finishing touch!  Hello, Jean Okimoto here, with a simple design in frosty winter pastels.

MemoryBoxHoliday2017-MemoryBoxWrappedStitchRectangles-MemoryBoxPiccoloSnowflakes-MemoryBoxStitchedPiccoloSnowflakes-MemoryBoxMakingSpiritsBrightClearStampSet-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-JeanOkimoto-DistressOxidesCards-WatercoloringWithDistressOxides-SnowflakeCards-GlitteredDiecuts

I found a pretty little scrap of Distress Oxide-painted watercolor paper in my stash and cut it with the 1-1/2" x 2-3/4" Rectangle Basics die.  Dry-emboss it with the smallest Wrapped Stitch Rectangle.

MemoryBoxWrappedSticheRectangles-EmbossingWithDies-DryEmbossingWithDies-DryEmbossingWithThePlatinum-JeanOkimoto

Here's the stacking sequence I used on my Platinum - platform, die face-up, watercolor paper face-down, tan embossing mat, purple embossing plate.  The dry-embossed Wrapped Stitch Rectangle creates a subtle stitched frame on the background.   It's a nice way to add texture without competing with main design elements like snowflakes.

Diecut the snowflakes from silver, aqua and pink glittered cardstock.

Stamp "believe" - from the Making Spirits Bright Clear Stamp Set - on a top-folded white A-2 card with Brilliance Pearlescent Jade.

Add the diecuts and small silver sequins.

A simple, basic layout like this works throughout the year.  Try it with various sizes of hearts, stars, butterflies or flowers - and  ghosts in October.  I'm always looking for ways to simplify my life and save time.  This will be a go-to template for other cards I'll be designing for you.

If you're in the Seattle area, join us for another SIMPLY ASIAN class at Impress on August 5th.  We'll make 7 Asian-inspired cards with beautiful silkscreened artpapers, dies and great techniques.  Enjoy the AC - and your 10% class discount on a great selection of Memory Box, Open Studio and Poppystamps products - and everything else on your wishlist!

Thanks a bunch for stopping by.  Keep cool, think snowflakes and winter pastels - even here in Seattle, with sunny skies and highs around 100.
