The first card of the blitz features the new Elegant Snowflake Double Frame as well as the Penguin Cheer stamps and dies.  When you die cut the Snowflake Frame, these are the pieces you get:

You can use as many of the various layers as you wish.  I decided to use everything except the individual snowflake for the card.  The dies came nested within each other, but I was able to easily die cut all of the pieces without cutting the dies apart.  I always like to keep the dies attached if possible so I am less likely to lose them.  I did use a metal shim when diecutting to since the die is so intricate and detailed.

Next, I die cut the penguin using the coordinating die:

Lets talk a bit about the coloring.  First, I put down a base layer of C7 and Y38 Copic markers.  Whenever a want to color something black, whether it is hair, a cauldron, or in this instance a penguin, I tend to color it with dark grey markers or paint. Black tends to be too dark.

Next, I added a bit of shading.  The YR16 was added to the base of the penguin's foot, and the C10 marker was added to the base of the penguin arms and body.  I didn't want to leave the belly so stark white, so I added some C1 and C3 to the outside of the tummy and around the face.

To finish the card, I added some R11 marker to the cheeks and added a little bow tie that was colored with R35 and R46 markers.  I glued a piece of blue glitter paper behind the snowflake frame and then layered everything on top of the glitter paper.  The blue cardstock behind the penguin is a piece of 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" paper I cut to fit in the frame and the snowbank I hand cut to provide a little base for my penguin.

I decided to leave the inside of the card blank for now.  I don't know if I am going to use the card as a Season's Greetings card or if I will use it for a winter birthday card.  I like having a card in my stash with options!

Want a chance to win the new Elegant Snowflake Double Frame die to make your own Winter scene?  Leave a comment to this post by Sunday, August 12th.  Once comment will be chosen at random to win the die.  The winner will be posted on the Outside the Box blog on Monday, August 13th at 6pm EST.
