Greetings friends. I don't know about you, but I am a big fan of the new Double Decker bus die. When I first saw it, I envisioned a Halloween bus with pumpkins in the windows. Then Isha made a great Halloween card using some of the latest Memory Box Halloween dies. I wanted to do something different, so I made a Christmas card instead. I think it is the first black Christmas card I have ever made!
I chose the new Dashing with Reindeer images and dies because I figured Santa's reindeer could probably use a night off from pulling the sleigh. I was tempted to put all 9 of the reindeer in the bus, but it started to get a little crowded in there. I did however make sure to put Rudolph in the front, since that seemed like the correct placement.
To color the reindeer I used some of my brown Copic markers (E31, E35, and E51). For Santa, I used more Copic markers (E50 for the skin, R27 for his suit, and C3 and C7 for his belt).
For the background, I sponged Distress Oxide inks onto black cardstock and then lightly spritzed the ink with water to help the colors blend. When the paper was dry, I splattered the sky with watered-down white acrylic paint to look like stars or snow.
Underneath the bus, I cut a black hill from the Curved Stitch Hilltops dies and then added a bit of road washi tape. I am sorry I no longer know the washi tape brand, but you could just as easily get the same look with a ruler and a white gel pen or white Prismacolor pencil.
For the lights, I used an assortment of Copic markers and then coated them with a clear glaze pen to make them look like glass. Here is a close up:
For the inside of the card, I used one of the sentiments from the same Dashing with Reindeer stamp set. I thought it was a different take on "dashing through the snow." One of the nice things to remember about Memory Box notecards is the inside is white and makes adding a sentiment to the inside very easy. Here is the inside of my Memory Box Licorice notecard:
The Double Decker bus is a lot of fun to use on a card and rather versatile. I am already planning to use it for a birthday party bus.
Have a great day!
