Sentimental Iris Three Ways
by Anne Thompson

New stamp sets from Memory Box!  Happy Happy July!!  For the next couple of weeks we will be showcasing the newest stamp sets from Memory Box.  You are going to LOVE them all!!!

For the three cards I made for this post I used the iris stamp from the SENTIMENTAL IRIS CLEAR STAMPS SET CL5202 and a small dots stamp from the BIRD SANCTUARY CLEAR STAMPS SET CL5201.   I stamped the images in approximately the same place on all three card panels and used the same or similar colors in three different mediums--colored pencil, markers, and watercolor (left to right in the photo below).

First up--colored pencils:

Before I stamped my first image, I cut the iris to separate the bloom from its stem/leaves/bud. (I did this because I wanted the flexibility of using the blossoms in a cluster without the stems/leaves/buds getting in the way--look for those cards next week!)  I then stamped the leaf section in Memento Cottage Ivy Ink three times, once in the upper left, and twice in the upper right on white cardstock.  I used Archival Deep Purple Ink for the bloom outlines, and then added the Cottage Ivy leaf section to each of those.  I colored the images with Prismacolor Pencils, layering colors to achieve a mottled and blended look.  I used more of the Cottage Ivy ink and the small dots stamp to fill in some of the white space.  I stamped the sentiment (one from the Sentimental Iris Clear Stamp Set) "just a note" in Cottage Ivy ink as well.  I adhered this panel (same size as the A2 card) to the front of a green notecard.

Second--markers:

For this card I used a watercolor paper panel with the images stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.  I like the way the markers worked on the watercolor paper.  (I had tried this on regular cardstock first and was much happier with the watercolor paper coloring test.)  I used a combination of colors similar to those of the colored pencils, choosing Memento and Tombow markers, again layering colors.  For the small dots, I used a Cottage Ivy Memento marker to color the stamp for each impression.  I adhered this panel to a blue notecard.

Third--watercolors:

Again I stamped the images with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink on watercolor paper.  I used my Kuretake watercolors, again blending colors that were similar to what I had used on the other two cards.  Instead of using the small dots stamp on this card, I spattered the card with watery green paint once the flowers were dry.  I attached this panel to a green notecard.

Three beautiful cards, three different mediums!  Give it a try!!
