Chantilly Butterfly Three Ways
by Anne Thompson

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Chantilly Butterfly dies: CHANTILLY BUTTERFLY 99777, CHANTILLY BUTTERFLY BACKGROUND 99783, and CHANTILLY BUTTERFLY COLLAGE 99781. And I particularly like these three dies used in combination with the LEAFY RING 99780! I have become so enamored of Dave's glitter technique using Scor-Tape sheets and glitter that I had to purchase more glitter last week!

On this first card I began by die cutting the Leafy Ring into the front of a white notecard. I added a circle cut from olive green cardstock behind it. I then cut the Chantilly Butterfly Background twice, once from yellow cardstock and once from Scor-Tape. I cut the Chantilly Butterfly once from the same yellow cardstock. I carefully peeled off the Scor-Tape backing from the Chantilly Butterfly Background and aligned it with the Chantilly Butterfly, exposing tape in all the little butterfly segments that I then filled in with different glitters. Next I peeled off the other protective layer on the back of the glittered butterfly, placed the righthand wing adhesive side down onto the front of the notecard. Then I cut one half of the butterfly from the yellow cardstock Chantilly Butterfly background and adhered it on the left side of the butterfly, bending that wing up off the card front. I stamped "TODAY IS A beautiful day" from the BEAUTIFUL DAY SENTIMENTS Clear Stamp Set CL5209 in the center of the Leafy Ring with VersaFine Onyx Black ink. I found some lime green gems in a variety of sizes and added some to the butterfly center and some on the notecard.

The second card is similar only this time I used a circle die along with the Leafy Ring and cut them from purple cardstock at the same time and cut another circle from key lime distressed dots paper for underneath. I made the butterfly in the same manner, except I used purple cardstock on the back of the entire glittered butterfly and used glue dots in its center to secure it to the Leafy Ring so I could bend up its wings. I used another sentiment from the Beautiful Day Sentiments set and pink gem stones to finish this one.

The third card is just a little bit different. This time I cut the Chantilly Butterfly Collage into the front of a white notecard. I cut the Chantilly Butterfly Background from Scor-Tape, peeled off one layer of protective paper and adhered it behind the butterfly, exposing glue under the little parts of the wings so I could glitter it up. I cut another Chantilly Butterfly Background from white cardstock, peeled off the protective layer under the glitter, and stuck it on. Then I inset the Leafy Ring cut again from purple cardstock along with a circle die and with a key lime distressed dots circle underneath the opening made by the Chantilly Butterfly Collage. I used another piece of cardstock 4 X 5 1/4 on the inside of the notecard to secure everything in place. I added a sentiment from the Beautiful Day Sentiments set and gemstones in two shades of pink to finish the card.

These cards were so much fun to make!  I love this technique for adding glitter that stays where you put it.  You can watch Dave's video here: http://davebrethauer.typepad.com/outsidethebox/2017/03/glitter-inlay-technique.html

HAPPY CRAFTING!
