Today is a beautiful day for Spring Lilacs
by Anne Thompson

For today's post I'm going to show you three cards I made featuring the SPRING LILACS Clear Stamp Set CL 5199 and BEAUTIFUL DAY SENTIMENTS Clear Stamp Set CL5209.  The first card is a matchbook card, 11 1/2" X 4 1/4" and scored at 4 3/4" from one end and 1 1/4" from the other end so that it folds down from the top and the shorter piece folds up from the bottom to make the shape with the top edge then tucking behind the smaller flap.  The finished folded size is the same as an A2 card!

Now for a little bit about how I made this and the other two cards.

These are the materials I used:

  • Beautiful Day Sentiments Clear Stamp Set CL5209
  • Spring Lilacs Clear Stamp Set CL5199
  • Spring Lilacs Die Set 32199
  • one medium-sized oval from the Stitched Oval Layers Die Set 30069
  • Deep Purple Archival Ink
  • Forever Green Hero Arts Ink
  • VersaFine Onyx Black Ink
  • Hero Arts Butter Bar Ink; Memento Dandelion Ink
  • Memento Markers:  Grape Jelly, Lilac Posies, Angel Pink, Lulu Lavender, Pear Tart, Rich Cocoa
  • clear acrylic blocks, ribbon, twine, and sparkly gems from my stash
  • white cardstock and envelopes; dark purple cardstock

I started by doing all of my stamping and coloring first on one sheet of white cardstock.  You'll notice that I colored outside the lines.  I did that on purpose so that the color would extend to the edge of the image once it was cut out.  It also made it really easy to color in broad strokes.  You can see where I tested out some colors on and around the imperfectly stamped images I wasn't going to use.

I used Washi tape to secure the dies over the lilacs and leaves before running them through the die cutting machine.  I attached two leaves to the back of each lilac stem using glue dots.  I then used foam dots to attach the lilacs to a purple cardstock stitched oval layer already taped onto the card front.  Because the lilacs were popped up it was easy to tie twine around the stem and secure it with a glue dot under the knot.  I then stamped the sentiment, adding the little sun stamped with Hero Arts Butter Bar Ink and stamped again with Memento Dandelion Ink.  I finished up with a few black sparkly gems.

I used standard A2 cards for the other two, adding a white ribbon tied in a bow on one and purple gems on the other.

Don't forget about the envelope!  I added the small cluster of lilacs from the Spring Lilacs stamp set and one of the sentiments from the Beautiful Day Sentiments stamp set.

I can't wait for the lilacs to blossom and fill the air with their beautiful scent.  Happy Crafting!
