Leafy Ring with Spring Lilacs
by Anne Thompson

Good afternoon!  It's the first day of our Blog Blitz here at Outside the Box.  Scroll down to see Laura's post from this morning.  It's just the beginning of a week full of goodness!  I'm so excited to share with you some of the newest dies and stamps from the just-released May 2017 collection!

From where I sit at my computer I can see our lilac bushes just beginning to leaf out and sprout buds.  So I just had to use the SPRING LILACS Clear Stamp Set CL5199 and the SPRING LILACS Die Set 32199 for this post.  Because I chose to use the smaller blossom clusters, I featured the LEAFY RING  Die 99780 in my card designs.

Once I got started I couldn't stop!  Here are the dies I used.

I used two of the circles from the STUDIO CIRCLE LAYERS set30016, one that the leafy ring fit tightly inside of and the next largest circle.  The three smaller dies are for the two leaf shapes and the blossom cluster from the Spring Lilacs Die Set.

These are the rest of the supplies:

Let's look at the purple cards first to see what I did.

Card 1:

I die cut the Leafy Ring from white cardstock.  I put some purple/white washi tape across the center of the Leafy Ring, then cut a larger dark green circle which I adhered under the Leafy Ring.  The next step was to die cut the small Spring Lilac blossoms bunch twice from light purple cardstock and stamp the blossoms in Archival Ink Deep Purple before cutting the two leaves from the Spring Lilacs set from the same dark green cardstock and stamping the leaf patterns with VersaFine Onyx Black ink.  I used a Pear Tart Memento marker to color the flower centers.  I used Glue Dots to hold the bunch together (two flower clusters, two leaves) and used foam dots to adhere it to the Leafy Ring.  I stamped "Happy Spring" from the Spring Lilacs stamp set using the VersaFine Onyx Black ink.  I added a simply knotted purple/white ribbon to complete the card.

Card 2:

I began by stamping the individual lilac blossoms (I grouped them on one clear block and kept rotating them as I stamped) from the Spring Lilacs stamp set onto the card front using the Archival Deep Purple ink and colored the flower centers with the Pear Tart marker.  I lined up the Leafy Ring and the larger circle as shown in the photo above to cut that shape from white cardstock.  I cut dark green cardstock with the smaller circle and adhered it underneath the Leafy Ring.  I used the same process as on the first card to create the flower bunch from lighter purple cardstock, adding the green leaves and popping it up from the ring's center.

Then I made two different green cards.

Here I cut the Leafy Ring from Key Lime Distressed Dots paper and backed it with a lighter green cardstock.  I cut the flower blossoms from white cardstock and colored them using a Pear Tart memento marker for the centers and layers of a Lulu Lavender Memento marker for the flowers.  (This month's Challenge is using markers.  Have you posted your project yet?)  I used four clusters of flowers and two leaves for the center bouquet.  And I found a piece of lime green twine to tie around the card in a bow.

The last card:

The only real difference here was placing the Leafy Ring directly on top of a Meadow notecard using foam dots.  I did use a more olive-y green for the leaves and stamped the outline with Hero Arts Forever Green ink.  And I used two shades of purple cardstock for the flower bunches.   I thought I was finished until I found the cute little bow to add.

Remember to leave comments for me about this post and on all of the others from the Design Team this week.  You have until 11:59 PM EST on Sunday May 14th to post your comments for a chance to win one of the new stamp sets or one of the new dies.  Someone who comments on this post will win the Leafy Ring die!

Happy Crafting!
