Happy Easter Gift Baskets
by Anne Thompson

I've never liked working with glitter until I watched Dave's video on the glitter inlay technique, and now I'm absolutely loving glitter!  Using Scor-Tape with the glitter eliminates the mess I used to make with glue and creates a truly stunning project.  I made several Easter basket cards using this technique for today's post.  Here are the items I assembled for my card-making "eggs-travaganza".

  • Scor-Tape 6X6 sheets
  • STITCHED OVAL LAYERS 30069 for cutting the Scor-Tape
  • GIFT BASKET OVAL 99649, silver and gold metallic papers, light purple cardstock
  • HAPPY EASTER JOURNAL SCRIPT 99660, silver and gold metallic papers
  • CLUTCH OF EGGS 99728 cut from paint chips from the local hardware store
  • PETITE FLOWER BUNCH 99654 cut first from green cardstock and blossoms cut from paint chips
  • WHITE NOTECARDS
  • a variety of fine and extra fine glitters

I started by cutting several ovals from the Scor-Tape.  I die cut the Gift Basket Oval from a light purple cardstock, peeled off the backing of one of the ovals about the same size, and adhered the basket to the exposed tape. I didn't get it exactly even--you can see where some of the purple glitter edges out a tiny bit beyond the oval frame. The next step was to sprinkle on glitter in several colors, rubbing the glitter into the tape with my finger.  I used a Swiffer cloth to wipe off the excess glitter.  Oooh!  So pretty!  I then carefully peeled off the backing behind the glittered basket oval and stuck it to a white notecard, smoothing everything down with my fingers.  I then filled the basket with eggs (I used Glue Dots to stick them on) that I had cut from the paint chips.  I loved using the paint chips for this because of the bright colors and the enameled look of the eggs.  I added the die cut Happy Easter and a bow to finish the card.

For the second card, I used an oval slightly larger than the Gift Basket Oval and adhered it directly onto a white notecard.  I cut the basket from gold metallic paper and set it onto the exposed tape.  I added glitter to cover all of the exposed tape, more of the paint chip eggs, just the word "Easter" cut from more of the gold paper, and a red bow.  Voila!

For the third card, I used silver metallic paper for the basket and "Easter".  I used the same procedure as for the first card but made sure to trim off any extra exposed tape beyond the oval frame. This time I added a bouquet of flowers to the basket by cutting the Petite Flower Bunch in green cardstock and then I layered on flowers cut from paint chips.  I added a few eggs outside the basket in the light blue glittered area (hmmm....they don't show in the photo) and tiny pearls in the centers of the flowers.

I LOVE these cards!  And I think the people that receive them will love them!

Having tried the paint chips for the eggs and for the flower bunch, I'm now thinking about creating more bouquets with pretty blossoms.  I'm doing everything I can think of to bring spring, especially after our April Fool's snowstorm on the weekend.  I'm hoping it looks and feels more like spring wherever you are!

Happy Crafting!
