Have You Seen the New Colors?

Oh, have you seen the new card colors that came out with the new What's in the Box 2012 release? Oh they are so pretty! They are Aloe, Sky, Violet, and Slate. I decided slate would be a fun challenge for me to play with so I created a card with it for you today.

Papers: Memory Box licoric nc, Memory Box slate, Memory Box Viola, Memory Box licorice dot 
Stamps: Memory Box Dogwood Branch F1847, Memory Box Something Special 
Stamp Ink: Archival Ink jet black 
Embellishments: Memory Box classic scallop die, Angora watercolors, Sizzix flower lattice #2 embossing folder, Robin's Nest black dewdrop, sewing machine

I first cut a 5 1/4" x 4" piece of slate cardstock. I then embossed it with an embossing folder. Look how amazing the embossing looks in this color. I love how much white from the core comes through. This is paper I will definitely emboss again. Next, I added a strip of Viola paper as well as a piece of licorice dot paper cut with the Memory Box Classic Scallop die. I then added some sewing to the papers before adhering them to my Memory Box licorice notecard. 

Next I stamped the Memory Box Dogwood Brand stamp twice onto white cardstock. I used my watercolors to color in the flowers. I cut one flower out and layered it on top of the first flower before adhering to the card. Next I stamped the Memory Box Something Special stamp onto Viola paper and trimmed for a tag. And lastly, I added a little embellishment to the flowers to finish.

A Quick Layout & Class Info!

I wanted to share my upcoming class info with you and a layout! For those of you new to my blog, I teach Memory Box classes at Stamp Salado in Salado, TX. My next class will be held on July 30th at 10:30 a.m., and it will be the first of a scrapbook series. We will be making two 8x8 scrapbook pages using Memory Box stamps, pearls, dies, and papers. For this first class, here is the "easier" of the two pages you will be making: 


This is actually the right-hand side of the two pages. I prefer scrapping single pages but created these two pages to match for those of you that enjoy doing two page spreads. This will work for either type of scrapper! If you are new to scrapping, join us. It's really just like making a larger card with a photo!

After this July class,  I will be holding classes on September 3rd and September 17th so be sure and mark your calendars! I hope to see you! Blessings,

A Layout for Tuesday!

Today, I thought I would share a layout using some photos I have been meaning to scrap since last spring. The colors in the new Valise Paper line really matched these photos perfectly! (**Please note that the photos came out a bit 'yellow'. The paper is truly a kraft color with teals and greens. The close-up shots show the original colors much better than the photo of the whole layout.)

I started out with a 12x12 sheet of the 'Bill of Sale' paper and cut it down to 8x8 since that's the page size that I scrap. I then matted the photos on papers from the 6x6 Valise paper pack. After mounting and placing the photos, I stamped the Cocoa Bean Butterfly stamp {C1714} several times just for fun. I then used the Classic Scallop die to create a border at the bottom using the same paper I used for matting. The cute journaling tag I cut from a 12x12 sheet of the Keepsake paper. To create the clocks, I punched out two clocks from the clock paper also in the 6x6 Valise paper pack. I covered them in Glossy Accents to look like a glass face over the clocks. To finish, I added stitching, pearls, a flower, and leaves.

These really are great papers. I hope you will give them a try along with the new dies next time you paper craft! You won't be disappointed! Have a great day ahead!

A {Layout} with Border Dies!

Today I wanted to share with you an 8x8 layout using two of the new Memory Box dies, various Memory Box stamps, and the 6x6 Pixie paper pack!  To begin, I started with the white Gelatos, my pink cardstock, and my water bottle. I spritzed the Memory Box Vintage Record Sheet {G1712} stamp with water, and then I colored it with the white Gelatos and stamped it onto the cardstock:

Next, I splashed the orange Gelatos on the cardstock by rubbing some Gelatos onto my acrylic block, spritzing it with water, then getting it all on my paintbrush to "flick" onto the paper.  There are subtle drops of orange on the layout. A darker color of course would give a bolder affect.

Then I used the PITT big brush pen to ink up the Memory Box Gorgeous Mini Bloom {B1761} stamp. Because the color would have been too bold, I stamped on a scrap piece of paper first then stamped again onto my cardstock. I wanted the brown color just not so bold. :) 

I also used that same stamp and the larger Memory Box Gorgeous Bloom {E1760} stamp to create the flower in the bottom left-hand corner of the layout. You can see a detailed tutorial on how to create the flower in this post here.  I then used two strips of Pixie paper for the layout and edged them with the Memory Box Classic Scallop {98118} die and the Memory Box Pearl Lace {98138} die. I love these two dies layered together!  And here is how my 8x8 layout turned out:

Create a "Journey" Background

I just LOVE this technique and this stamp. It can be used on cards, layouts, altered art, ATCs, anything. I thought I would share with you a simple way to make a fun background thus creating your own patterned paper.  First, here is what the little background looks like:


To begin, get a piece of white cardstock (or any color cardstock you want to use). One thing I love about Memory Box cardstock is that the back is white and the paper has a white core. What that means is that if you don't have white cardstock, turn over ANY piece of Memory Box cardstock to get white! And the white core means you can sand it! I have shared a sanding technique before in this post here on the blog. 

To create this background, first spritz your paper in the corners with Glimmer Mist. I chose to use Spring Rain and Gumdrop.  After drying, I inked up the bottom 3rd of the Memory Box Journey Collage {G1733} stamp with Walnut Stain distress ink.  I stamped it randomly on the paper in two corners. I usually stamped twice before re-inking so that I also got a faded look. Once that was done, I then designed my layout to create my 8x8 page you can see here:

If you are doing this on a card, it works the same way just on a smaller scale. :) You could certainly have lots of fun with this using different colored inks, different Memory Box collage stamps, etc. You could have many different looks and fun backgrounds for any creation!

The butterfly stamps I used were the Memory Box Cocoa Bean Butterfly {C1714} stamp and the Memory Box Butterfly Collage {E1060} stamp. After stamping, I colored the wings with my Derwent watercolor pencils.

Trolleys & Trails

When we go home to South Carolina, we love to ride our bikes. There are trails everywhere, and then there are trolleys that take people to and from shops, etc.  I thought it would be fun to do an 8x8 layout of the trolley stop and the map of the bike paths.  The new Brioche papers and some of the new What's in the Box stamps were perfect for my layout.

Let's look at how I used the stamps on this layout:

Vintage Record Sheet G1712:  I inked up the stamp with red ink, and then stamped it on a pre-purchased journaling tag. The stamp gave me some lines for a bit of journaling and also brought in more red to the layout.

Birch Branch Print G1720:  After adhering my papers to my page, I used red ink again to stamp this image directly onto my paper. I then embossed it with clear embossing powder and added some Memory Box pearls to add some dimension.

Another Layout with More Chances to {Win}

Journey Collage G1733--I stamped just the lower half of this stamp onto Minuet paper. I then trimmed it down and incorporated it into my title!

Bitsy Car A1729--Next I stamped this image several times on the layout: twice down by the title and once on the journaling tag. Just a bit of the car "peeps" through on the journaling tag. I thought that would be fun just to show a part of the image.

Oh Sugar!

Okay, so how many of you started singing when you read my title?  For those of you asking "singing what?" then I am definitely dating myself! LOL! One of our parrots' names is Sugar, and I always sing this song to her. She dances right along with me and loves it! Anyway, I had this adorable picture of her "helping" me unpack the groceries.  Her beautiful feathers matched the colors in the new Memory Box Minuet papers and the new patterned papers so well that it all came together perfectly for this layout:

I used the new Orchid Branch Print {G1718} image to stamp the flowers several times onto the new Memory Box Patterned Papers--mango and squash distressed dots and mango moroccan paper. I then cut out each flower, added Stickles to the center of each flower, and sprinkled them on my layout. This stamp and the flowers have SO much potential on any paper creation! I am sure I will be using this a lot!
